The longest-running gold coin for sale at the Perth Mint is the Australian Gold Kangaroo. Introduced in 1987, the series was known as the Australian Nugget through 1989 and then switched its design focus to feature the Australian kangaroo species on the reverse each year. The collection has long featured a 1 oz gold coin along with three fractional-ounce options. The smallest of those is the 1/10 oz coin.
On the obverse of 1/10 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty has been the Queen of England and Queen of Australia since 1952. The coins in this series feature either the fourth-generation, fifth-generation, or sixth-generation images. The most common design in this series is the fifth-generation effigy from Ian Rank-Broadley that was in use on Australian coins from 1999 to 2018.
The reverse of 1/10 oz Gold Kangaroos features varying images of the kangaroo species. The largest marsupial in the world, the kangaroo is depicted in different designs each year. There are four common subspecies of the kangaroo, with the likes of the eastern grey, western grey, and red kangaroos featured on the reverse.
